I know on the IE touchscreens they have hard programmable buttons that I have not yet implemented. My real point was do the integration but on the main entry door where one was to usually enter or exit their own home (might be the side, back or in the garage) have an alarm keypad there and a touchscreen. The link I sent contains an explanation RyanE was kind enough to provide that allowed me to correct the programming for home and away and now it works well. I have scenes like you are talking about for home and away. Please don't misunderstand, I really like the integration of my security with Control4 and use it daily. May be the sensible option, my sixth sense tells me!

Of course, I can give her a remote control, and bypass C4 altogether. I'm talking about never punching any alarm codes in at all. Ditto for when she retires at night - from the Touchscreen next to her bed, I'm thinking of assigning a hard-button to trigger a Good-night scene, which kills any lights left on and arms the alarm in specific zones.

My intention is to use this PIR to trigger a Welcome Home scene when she drives into her garage (she lives alone on a secure estate), which will disarm the alarm and depending on the time of day, turn on some lighting scene and play some music. There is a hard-wired-back-to-the-controller Paradox PIR in the garage (not a C4 WMS, thank you very much, I've found them to be not 100% unreliable, unfortunately). My client is something of a technophobe, but she loves the idea of one-button control of lights and AV, etc, so the last thing I want to do is complicate her life (and indirectly mine, of course!) by putting any obstacles in her way. I detect some caution in the tone of your response, which I will note! I've learnt with Home Automation that wherever possible one should apply the KISS rule. Thanks for taking the time to reply, appreciate it. I would recommend using the alarm keypads at least at the main entry door and for the little difference in cost only get 7" screens (I'm sure you know the new ones also have video capablity for intercom to the door etc.)īTW deifinitley get the 587E as it is essential for using the security keypad on the navigators in other places, with 4sight, and with smartphones through MyHome which will work remotely with VPN etc. I'm sure you could program the C4 system to do this, but that would not work for me.Īlso for the touchscreens I don't have big hands or bad eyes but the 5" is too small especially if one was to use this for the security panel.

The vbirual pad in the C4 interface does not have the sound feedback that the alarm keypads have (at least I have not seen a way to set mine.) So the chime when a door opens or when the alarms armed or disarmed would not be present. Above each alarm pad I have a 7" IE screen and we would never think of using that instead of the dedicated pad with hard buttons. The virtual keypad functions about the same but is slightly more difficult to operate with the touchscreen for me. In the end I wound up going with hard keypads (in addition to the IE screens.) I'm glad I did this. I had the same desires as your client when I was planning new construction to have just the IE screens and no keypads. See this post for one of the things I ran into: I am using the 587E interface and it works very well with a couple of minor quirks. FWIW I have this same setup, HC-800 and NX-8E on 2.2.2.
